Prayer for Mama

I know that every blogger out there knows this next statement is true. You meet the nicest people that blog. People that you may never in your life meet in person, yet you know there is a bond. I thank God for all of you, I really do. Heidi Gonzales of My Simple Country Living and White Wolf Summit Farmgirl has started a prayer chain for my mama "Dot". That is such thoughtful thing to do and it gives me peace to know of the prayers going up for mama.  I don't have a recipe to share today but if you look through the archives you will find many and they are from her collection....please visit Heidi's Blogs.

Thank you Heidi
Michelle Cutler from Michelle's Little Piece Of Heaven
has done a post too about this.
Thank you so much Michelle.
Please visit their blogs and follow you won't be sorry. They are wonderful people.
I love all of you out there praying and I do thank God for you.

You can probably guess what I am storing in this cabinet.  It is a work in progress.
It is going to be a very useful storage item for me to be sure.
I will share the items inside in a post coming soon.

Now I want to share what fun we had with the grans trick or treating in the city of Hartsville, SC
Boy, did it bring back memories for me trick or treating in our little town.
Hartsville keeps it city alive with activities. This was one that was thoroughly enjoyed by all of us.

Retro: Apron or Bonnet?

How about both! I got this apron on the left from Grandmother Johnson. Guess it is pretty old now but isn't it cute?  I made the red gingham apron on the right. She always had the cutest most useful items that were made by her and her family members. This apron pattern has big roomy pockets and buttons on the waistband when buttoned the apron becomes a bonnet.  read more...

Gathering Natural Items for Decor

I love all things natural.  Do you? There is such beauty that surrounds us. My mama has always loved the outdoors, gardening and just in general. I think that my sisters and I have inherited this from her.
Take a walk enjoy the beauty that surrounds you.
Create something pretty from your finds...
Cotton fields surround our Hibiscus House when in full bloom it is like snow...
The Morning Glories that trail along the plants are beautiful
The never ending blooms on the Knock-Out Roses
I reall like the fall colored leaves and dried flower pods on the Oak Leaf Hydrangea ...

Create something today...

Retro Post: ~ My First Apron ~

This is the first apron or for that matter first item ever sewn by me. I found it while cleaning out the storage shed, and was so happy, thought I had thrown that one away years ago.

"Little Gingham Apron"
Made in Home Economics Class

Teacher:  Mrs Loutee Pardue

I can remember being in her class and thinking "Wow, she is so hard on me!"
I truly thought she hated me.
Years later when she visited quite often at our strawberry farm she told me why..
"She said, Dolly I realize that I was very hard on you and would you like to know why?"
I said, "Yes Ma'am please tell me."
She said, "I pushed you so hard because I saw so much potential there and I see that I was right.
"I am very proud of you."
Ok whew, 30 years later and it was wonderful to find that out anyway!

Teachers you may never know how your words and actions affect the school children, hope this lets you know.

I still have my very first sewing scissors from that class

I am in the middle with the bonnet and wearing my apron
We had a photo shoot for the school annual for

Future Homemakers of America
How retro is that? Love it!

Apron shown straightened out, made from 1 yard of fabric and simple.
Look at all of the pocket area...
I'm gonna make more now.

Apron shown here gathered on waistband/ties

Now go and make you a pretty apron!

Catie Cole is at it Again!

Catie has made a crocheted one of a kind Original Portrait Doll
She made this from a photo of her friend.
It is really cute! The details are so good even down the the nose ring.

The legs aren't bent I just plopped her down for picture

If friend allows will share her picture in comparison.

 Another creation made for Daniel
Star Wars Storm Trooper
Bedspread or throw

I am amazed at Catie's talent. I crochet but not without a pattern this daughter of mine can look at something and make it...amazing to me. God has blessed her with such talent, actually both of my girls and I thank him for all.
